The Waymo startup has uploaded a 360-degree panoramic video to the network that explains in detail how its autonomous car control system works on real examples, and also allows you to feel like a passenger of an unmanned taxi.
Thanks to the panoramic video it can be conveniently viewed not only on a PC and a smartphone, but also in any helmet of virtual reality, yuchaya simple Google Cardboard. The video makes it possible to estimate how large a data array is provided by cameras, radars and lidars to the Waymo system, which then transforms them into an understandable virtual environment.
According to the company, this video should help potential users of autonomous taxis overcome fear of uncertainty before the first use of the service. It turns out that this will not be superfluous, as according to a Gallup poll of more than 3,000 Americans interviewed, 54% said that they would hardly use unmanned vehicles, and 59% said they would not feel comfortable on such a trip.
Recall that early in the year, Waymo ordered several thousand new minivans from Chrysler Pacifica to expand the service of unmanned taxis to new US cities. Also, the startup recently reported on the next milestone of 5 million miles (8 million km) that the UAVs overcame as of February 2018.
